Ngauruhoe   Mount Doom

Vulkanen spelen een belangrijke rol in de geschiedenis van de Maori's, het Tongariro park met 3 grote vulkanen, is een heilig gebied voor hen en dankzij hun inzet werd het het eerste national park in Nieuw Zeeland.

Ook in de film In de Ban van de Ring speelt deze berg een belangrijke rol als mount Doom waar de ring van macht gesmeed is en ook vernietigd moet worden. Het vulkanische landschap is Mordor.

Vulcano's are important in the history of Maori, the Tongariro park with 3 big vulcano's is a sacred area for them and thanks to them it became the first nationalpark of New Zealand.

Also in the movie of The Lord of the Rings this mountain is important, it is mount Doom where the ring of power is made and has to be destroyed. The vulkanic landscape is Mordor.
